Five-Mile Stretch of I-64 in St. Louis Closed for Year
A stretch of Interstate 64 in the heart of St. Louis closed for construction on January 2, 2008, and is to remain closed for one year.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has closed I-64 from just east of Interstate 270 at Ballas Road to Interstate 170. All lanes in this five-mile section will be closed for the entire 2008 calendar year. In 2009, I-64 will be closed from I-170 to Kingshighway.
The I-64 reconstruction project, the largest in the state’s history, is a $535 million project to reconstruct nearly 10 miles of I-64 from west of Spoede Road in St. Louis county to east of Kingshighway in St. Louis city. Construction began in March 2007 and is scheduled to be complete by July 2010.
To get around St. Louis, MoDOT has created a new mapping tool called Map My Trip, which is available at http://dist6.modot.mo.gov/mapmytrip/. When you enter your origin and destination, the mapping tool provides a map routing you around any closed ramp, interchange or section of road in St. Louis city or St. Louis County.
